In Memoriam: Pedro Freire (1993 - 2024)

ITG mourns the death of Pedro Freire. Pedro Freire was born in Lisbon, Portugal. His first trumpet lessons were with José Augusto Carneiro and Vítor Pereira. From 2010 to 2013, he continued to study with Filipe Coelho at the Escola Profissional de Música da Metropolitana. Pedro then entered the class of Jeroen Berwaerts at the Hochschule für Musik Hannover.

After further studies and internships such as the Concertgebouworkest and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, in 2019 Pedro Freire joined the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester as solo trumpet. In 2023 Pedro returned home, winning the position of co-principal trumpet with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal.

Pedro was 31 years old. He was full of goodness and music with a smile full of brilliance. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Pedro. (Source: David Burt)
