ITG Staffing Changes - New Works

The International Trumpet Guild announces the appointment of two new staff members for our New Works program: Marisa Youngs and Julia Bell.


Marisa Youngs

The new Chair for New Works will be Marisa Youngs. Youngs will manage and lead the ITG New Works Committee.

Dr. Marisa Youngs teaches trumpet and music theory at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Marisa also composes and arranges works for unaccompanied trumpet, trumpet and piano, brass quintet, and trumpet ensemble. Her most recent composition, Eclipse (for solo flugelhorn/trumpet), received its first live performance by Brynn Marchiando, principal trumpet of the Santa Fe Symphony. Eclipse was featured as the closing work for the symphony’s virtual season opener in October 2020, which was filmed as an interactive concert series at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico. Marisa also has several original compositions for trumpet ensemble and enjoys arranging in a variety of styles for trumpet and piano, brass quintet, and trumpet ensemble.

She holds a BM from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a MM from Boston University, and a DMA from the University of Kentucky.

Since 2018, Marisa has served as the on-site New Works Coordinator for ITG and has had several articles published in the ITG Journal. She has given a linguistics presentation at the virtual 2021 ITG Conference, led a masterclass at the 2019 ITG Conference in Miami, Florida, and was featured as a New Works performer at the 2018 conference in San Antonio, Texas. She has also presented her linguistics research at the University of Kentucky Summer Trumpet Institute and remains on faculty there every summer.


Julia Bell

The newly appointed New Works Coordinator is Julia Bell. She will help organize the ITG Conference New Works Recitals and assist Dr. Youngs with the leadership of the New Works Committee.

Julia Bell is a musician and educator in Tallahassee, Florida. She is a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and Big Bend Brass and was recently the third-place winner in the Graduate Solo Division of the 2022 National Trumpet Competition. 

As an educator, Julia maintains a private studio and has presented masterclasses to studios throughout the United States, most recently including Valdosta State University, the University of Kentucky, Kansas State University, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte trumpet studios, as well as recent presentations at the 2021 International Trumpet Guild Conference and National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors Conference.

Julia is a doctoral graduate teaching assistant at Florida State University (FSU). She holds an MM from FSU and a BM from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

ITG New Works Program

The ITG New Works Committee reviews new compositions for trumpet and considers them for performance at the annual ITG Conference. The official 2023 Call for New Works will be announced on the ITG website in June. Questions should be directed to Dr. Marisa Youngs at [email protected]
