Alison Marseglia to US Coast Guard Band

Alison Marseglia, a senior performance major at Baylor University (BU), has won the audition for a position in the United States Coast Guard Band’s trumpet section.

Having grown up in Connecticut and hearing this premiere band regularly, Alison has always considered this her dream job. She will join the band after graduating in December, 2023.

Since arriving at Baylor in 2020, Alison has performed principal and supportive roles in the BU Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble and has been active in the Jazz Ensemble, Baylor Gold Trumpet Ensemble, and Lux Brass. She has studied with Wiff Rudd and Mark Schubert and has had opportunities to work with Terry Everson, Judith Saxton, Allen Vizzutti, Ben Wright, Joseph Foley, Louis Hanzlik, Ryan Gardner, Anthony Plog, and others. Alison’s consistent successes, particularly in the spring of 2023, testify to her musical prowess in individual and collaborative efforts.

After winning First Prize in the National Trumpet Competition’s Denny Edlebrock Military Band Excerpt Division at the University of Colorado, Alison then placed first in the International Trumpet Guild’s Orchestral Excerpt Division in Minneapolis. Baylor Gold won Third Prize in NTC’s Small Ensemble Division. Lux Brass, a like-minded brass quintet established by Alison and four other freshmen in 2020, performed at the convention of the Texas Music Educators Association and then won Second Prize in two inaugural competitions, The National Brass Quintet Competition, and the Chamber Music Division of ITG’s Ryan Anthony Memorial Competition. Alison has also performed with the symphony orchestras of Waco and Austin and in numerous notable professional concerts in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. She is currently participating in the Brevard Music Festival, studying with Ryan Beach, Rob Smith and Ray Riccomini. (Source: Wiff Rudd)
