Carrie Schafer to Grand Rapids Symphony

Carrie Schafer has been appointed assistant principal/ 2nd trumpet with the Grand Rapids Symphony.

Born in Minnesota and raised in the Chicago land area, Carrie Schafer has performed in orchestras all over the world. Graduating from Northwestern University with a bachelor's in Music Performance studying with Barbara Butler and Charlie Geyer, Carrie later attended the Colburn School in Los Angeles, California. She has held positions with the New World Symphony in Miami, Florida, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and the Houston Symphony. She also spent 3 summers performing with the UBS Verbier Orchestra in Verbier, Switzerland. Carrie won a Grammy with the St. Louis Symphony in 2015 with their performance of John Adam’s City Noir.

Carrie recently won the audition for assistant principal/ 2nd in the Grand Rapids Symphony and 2nd trumpet with the Lansing Symphony. She is also a frequent substitute with the Detroit Symphony. She began her master's degree at Michigan State University in the fall of 2022, studying with Justin Emerich with a University Distinguished Fellowship. (Source: Carrie Schafer)
