Sachs Premieres Marsalis Trumpet Concerto

Michael Sachs and the Cleveland Orchestra presented the world premiere of Concerto for Trumpet by Wynton Marsalis, on Thursday, April 27th, at 7:30pm, at Severance Music Center in the Mandel Performance Hall, under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst.

Marsalis (L) and Sachs (R)

This brilliant six-movement work travels the gamut of trumpet style, expression, and color. The definitive performances were magnificently rendered, with genuine emotional impact, by Mr. Sachs.  The always immaculate Cleveland Orchestra navigated the complex and expansive score with aplomb. Composer Wynton Marsalis was in attendance for all rehearsals, and the Thursday evening premiere. Each performance was met with exuberant applause, many curtain calls, and the joyous response of an audience that knew they had just heard something undeniably special.
