Texas A&M-Commerce “Zoomasterclass” Series

The Texas A&M University-Commerce trumpet studio hosted several clinicians in its “Zoomasterclass” series during the 2020–2021 academic year.

Due to the studio’s size, COVID guidelines would not allow any face-to-face masterclasses for most of the year. However, students were able to perform for clinicians from the professor’s studio, which helped the clinician get a more accurate sense of sound thanks to a small investment in microphones and a bit of extra stress for the professor! Most of the sessions were also livestreamed on YouTube (youtube/user/thetrumpetdoc). Virtual guests this year included Dr. Nairam Simoes, SSgt Adrienne Doctor, SSgt Kevin Paul, Kyle Sherman, Dr. Jason Dovel, Jennifer Marotta, Mary Elizabeth Bowden, Dr. Grant Peters, Dr. Cynthia Carrell, Dr. Seretta Hart, Dr. John Kilgore, Dr. Jason Bergman, Dr. Scott Hagarty, and Dr. Jared Broussard. And as the health restrictions eased a bit in the spring the studio welcomed Howard Engstrom for a face-to-face masterclass, the first in-person studio guest since January 2020. The studio would like to once again thank all of these outstanding artists for sharing their time and talents.
