Redesigned Youth Competition for 2020 ITG Conference

The International Trumpet Guild has made several changes to the annual Youth Competition. These changes are to encourage participation by more students and to add an educational component to the event. In this year’s redesigned youth contest, the focus will be the performance of a single etude. Following the student’s performance, they will receive a coaching from one of ITG’s distinguished teaching artists.
The Youth Competition is part of the 2020 ITG Conference, which will take place May 26 – 30 at the Hyatt Regency, Columbus, Ohio. This competition will be held on one of two “Youth Days."

The Competition will be divided into Junior and Senior Divisions. For the Junior Division, students may prepare any etude of the contestant’s choice. For the Senior Division, the student should prepare Any single etude selected from Vassily Brandt’s Orchestral Etudes for Trumpet (Public domain and available for free online).

At the ITG Conference, students will perform their chosen etude for a panel of distinguished ITG artists. Immediately following their performance, an ITG artist will coach the student on their repertoire. The panel of judges will select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners for each division and monetary prizes will be awarded for each division winner.

Candidates will be provided with written comments from the distinguished panel of judges.

Please note that audition recordings are no longer required for the Youth Division. There is no cost to enter the Youth Division. All entrants must be ITG Members by February 1, 2020.
