Gary Barrow retires from Arkansas Tech University

Gary Barrow retired in May after 35 years on the music faculty at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.

Prior to his appointment there, he was Professor of Trumpet at Colorado State University-Pueblo  where he was principal trumpet with the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra. As a graduate student, Barrow was a member of the University of Illinois Faculty Brass Quintet performing alongside his mentor Haskell Sexton. In addition, he was in the U.S. Army Band (Pershing’s Own) for three years.

An active ITG member, he served as Festival of Trumpets Coordinator in 1988 for the conference at the University of North Texas. His articles on brass pedagogy and history have appeared in School Band and Orchestra, The Journal of Band Research, The ITG Journal, Woodwind, Brass & Percussion.
