Frank Campos master class and recital at Del Mar College

Yamaha performing artist, and trumpet professor at Ithaca College, Frank Campos visited Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas on Friday, March 29th, 2013. He presented a master class and a recital.

The afternoon master class showcased the students in Dr. Scott Hagarty’s trumpet studio. The Del Mar student trumpet ensemble performed the first two movements of Erik Morales’ Cityscapes, and five individual trumpet students performed, including sophomore Frank Muñoz performing the first movement of the Haydn trumpet concerto, freshman Samantha Pamrow performing the first movement of the Hummel trumpet concerto and sophomore Chase Rivera performing Bozza’s Rustiques. One student of Dr. Mary Thornton from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi also participated. Frank Campos spoke to the students about internalizing rhythm and feeling the musical flow during performance. He was complimentary of many of the students.

The evening recital featured his “Art of the Single Line” program, an unaccompanied performance. The program opened with the famous and popular “Flight of the Bumblebee”, and touched on a wide range of styles from Chick Chorea to Bach and even some Campos originals. The audience gave Campos a standing ovation for display of endurance and musicianship, for which he performed an encore.
