IUP Trumpet Day 2018
The Trumpet Studio at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) hosted its annual “Trumpet Day” on Sunday, April 15, 2018. Forty trumpet players, from 6th graders to adult, attended.

The day began with a warm-up session led by Dr. Kevin Eisensmith, professor of trumpet at IUP, along with Michael Sachs, the featured artist for the event. Mr. Sachs presented a clinic in the afternoon that covered topics from the warm up, to developing a practice routine, to preparation of orchestral excerpts.

The participants rehearsed during the day and performed David Marlatt’s Spring as a prelude to the recital given by Mr. Sachs. Among the works performed on his recital were Giuseppe Torelli’s Sonata No. 1 in D, Hummel’s Concerto in E-flat and the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto. Mr. Sachs was accompanied by Dr. Henry Wong Doe and Dr. Sun Min Kim, members of the IUP music department’s piano faculty.
