Position: Lecturer of Jazz Trumpet

The principle duties for this job include:

1. Teach students in the jazz trumpet studio, (undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels,
including Music Performance, Music Education and double majors).
2. In collaboration with the Jazz Area instructors present a weekly studio class.
3. Conduct regular office hours
4. Conduct a jazz ensemble to play regular concerts at the School of Music

Studio Responsibilities:
1. Recruit students to grow and maintain an appropriate studio size
2. Participate in all juries for the jazz trumpet performance majors at the end of the semester
3. Attend all graduate/undergraduate audition days
4. Respond to inquiries from prospective students and their parents.

Departmental/ Area Responsibilities:
1. Attend all departmental and area meetings as requested
2. Perform on campus with a jazz faculty ensemble

Facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and assists with instructional development and design for a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline to support the delivery of quality instruction. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.

  • 50% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • 10% Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • 25% Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
  • 5% Attend area and departmental meetings as necessary
  • 10% Engages in outreach and recruitment activities, representing the university to prospective students.

Master's Degree

Terminal Degree


Two years of college level teaching experience
Proven record as an accomplished jazz trumpetist at the national and/or international level
Proven ability to lead a jazz ensemble
