Invitational Brass Conference at Central Methodist University

On Wednesday February 8, the fourth Invitational Brass Conference (IBC) was hosted at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri.

The full-day event attracted over one hundred participants from fourteen Missouri high schools. Several clinics on the brass instruments were held and addressed fundamental topics such as breathing and tone production, warming-up, technique building, flexibility, practice procedures, and literature. Sessions with directors included considering the cornet over the trumpet for beginners, misconceptions of horn players, and common problems facing euphonium and tuba players. The final concert portion included performances by the IBC Brass Quintet (John D. Perkins, Paul Copenhaver, trumpet, Brandon McDannald, horn, Larry Bennett, trombone, and Jackie Lordo, tuba), the CMU Student Brass Quintet (Lakyn Baker, Joslyn West, trumpet, Michael O’Neill, horn, Johnathan Daniels, trombone, and Alex Kirby, tuba), concluding with the participant sections playing their portions of the program.
