2016 Trumpet Festival of the Southeast

The Trumpet festival of the Southeast was recently held at the University of Alabama at Birmingham January 15–17.

Hosted by UAB faculty members Dr. James Zingara and Dr. Steve Roberts, the festival‘s featured clinicians were solo artist Joe Burgstaller and jazz artist Sean Jones. Sponsored in part through a grant from the International Trumpet Guild, the event attracted nearly 200 scholastic, collegiate, adult amateur and professional trumpeters from six states to the UAB campus. The festival featured six concerts (with 21 world premiere performances) and five clinics during the two day event. Ten collegiate and two professional trumpet ensembles were featured in two showcase concerts. The Alabama Trumpet Guild, an affiliate chapter of ITG, hosted the opening Welcome Concert and the ATG Ensemble performed a transcription of the Concerto by Andrea Grossi with Alabama Symphony Orchestra principal Ryan Beach as soloist and also premiered Diamente by Robert J. Bradshaw.
