2017 CSU Fresno Trumpet Festival

On Friday, March 10, 2017, California State University, Fresno hosted a trumpet festival under the direction of Dr. Nathan Sobieralski.

The festival featured guest artist Jens Lindemann. Activities included a mass trumpet ensemble open to all participants, a master class by Jens Lindemann, and an evening recital. In the master class, Lindemann discussed conquering the high range, efficient practice techniques, as well as his philosophy on mouthpieces. The evening recital featured the mass trumpet ensemble performing Eric Ewazen’s Prelude and Fugue for Trumpet Choir,  Sobieralski performing Ernst Sachse's Concertino, and Jens Lindemann rounding out the remainder of the recital with several works including Enesco’s Legend. Dr. Sobieralski and Lindemann performed Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets. The decision of who would play first part on the Vivaldi was determined by flipping a coin (a Canadian silver dollar) on stage. Lindemann randomly selected a student participant to come up on stage and the student flipped the coin. Lindemann was accompanied by pianist Dr. Jennifer Snow. The event drew more than 75 trumpet players from throughout California’s Central Valley and beyond.
